- Chest pain is the most common symptom. Classical heart related chest pain occurs under the breast bone, a little left from the centre. There is sensation of heaviness in the chest. The pain is called as angina. Pain lasts only for a few minutes or can recur after certain intervals. This pain can occur on exertion and may subside after rest. However, if the pain persists even after rest then it might be a sign of an impending heart attack. This pain can radiate to shoulders, arms, elbows, back, neck or jaw. There may be burning sensation in the chest and/or squeezing, pressure or fullness.
- Irregular pulse is termed as arrhythmia. Arrhythmias, when associated with shortness of breath, dizziness or weakness, can be a sign of an impending heart failure or heart attack. Arrhythmias when left untreated can lead to stroke.
- Sweating is another symptom; some people might experience excessive cold sweats.
- Shortness of breath is also associated with heart problems which usually occurs with pulmonary conditions like asthma or COPD.
- Edema is another vital indicator of heart disease. Swelling mostly occurs in feet, ankles, legs or abdomen.
- High blood pressure and high cholesterol can lead to development of serious heart complications, so you should always keep a check on your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
- Heart patients often complain of anxiety and fear.
- Heart problems can also lead to dizziness or lightheadedness.
- Fatigue is another symptom which people suffering from heart disease complain about. The person feels very sleepy and tired all the time.
- Nausea or decreased appetite.
In case of any of the above symptoms, it is advisable to immediately get oneself screened for the heart health.
