Air conditioners are a boon for people living in the tropics. It feels like heaven when you walk into an air-conditioned room. ACs are helpful not only in cooling you off, they serve multiple of purposes like driving away heat rashes, making sure your make-up doesn’t run down with your sweat, eliminating allergens that would otherwise have put you in a sneezing fit, to name a few.
Unfortunately, like everything else, air conditioners too have a flip side to them. Too much exposure to ACs can damage your skin.
When you spend the whole day in your air conditioned office and then come back to your air conditioned home, you end up not exposing your skin to any fresh air. This leaves your skin all dried up and shriveled.
The effect of using air conditioners excessively is best seen on your face, arms, and the other exposed parts of your body. You may experience too much itching and your skin may be peeling off in patches. Your skin will look shriveled and dried with fine wrinkles. It may also look red in severe cases.
If you experience any of these symptoms and have not been able to pinpoint them towards a specific disease, then try turning off your AC.
Being exposed to air conditioners can end up making you look old and shriveled.
Too much of dry air-conditioned air has the same effect on your skin as excessive bathing, especially with hot water. Also, too much exposure to air-conditioned atmosphere may flare up some other disease conditions like arthritis. How much you need to use your AC is your personal decision. However, keep in mind the effects it has on your skin. Try and keep a temperature that is not very low and make sure you use the moisturizers liberally.
