Skipping breakfast leads to weight gain over time!

Skip breakfast and gain weight!!

Our eating patterns generally consist of three meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We snack in between sometimes and have beverages. Every meal is highly important in keeping a tab on your calorie consumption.

If you do not eat your breakfast, then your brain begins to believe that you need high-calorie food because you have not broken-your-fast after a 6 to 10 hour long sleep. So, in order to re-energize itself, it will incline towards food which has high calories. It is important to remember that this is a psychological phenomenon. The 'reward' center in your brain - the one which gives you pleasure after eating - because the brain believes that high-calorie food is going to energize you, seems to gain more pleasure from them as well. However, you can put a stop on this pattern by eating a healthy breakfast. Many tests today have come up with results which show that people who skip breakfasts might be consuming lesser calories actually. However, these have not cemented the findings which have proved clearly that though sometimes people do not consume more calories, they gain weight over time. Thus, if you don't eat breakfasts for a long time, you will gain more weight than you would if you ate a balanced breakfast.

Regardless of how the skipping of breakfast might affect the weight, the important part is that your body needs the breakfast for a variety of reasons: Medical studies have shown that breakfast should be eaten within two hours of waking up. Breakfast plays an essential role in restoring your glucose levels. Glucose is required for normal functioning of your brain. Eating breakfast helps to improve your memory and focus.

What kind of breakfast should you have?

Oatmeal is a great way to start your day. It contains beta-glucan which is a fiber that reduces cholesterol, if consumed regularly. Yogurt is filled with calcium and protein which will satisfy your appetite well.

Did you know that consuming just 2 spoons of wheat germ will cover about 15% of your daily requirement of vitamin E? It also helps in fulfilling the need of folate.

Grapefruit has fat-burning properties, which also positively affects the level of sugar in your blood, and insulin. It is hydrating and full of antioxidants. Munch on a grapefruit with yogurt or egg for a balanced meal. Add some banana slices to your cereal. This will satiate your need for sweetness and keep you full for a longer time.

Almond butter consists of mono-unsaturated fats and taste yummy with bread-slices! You could also hydrate your body with a piece of watermelon during breakfast. It contains lycopene which helps your sight, prevents cancer, and is good for your heart too.
